Heat, dogs, and a dirty house

July 3, 2008 shareanak

Now is the time of the year that the temperature starts to warm up, the flowers are blooming (not necessarily the grass :( ), and families are out taking vacations and having a good time. Summer is beautiful and I am really enjoying my time off work even though this post may not reflect that.

The one thing I am not enjoying is the cleaning. I LOVE LOVE LOVE to come home to a clean house (who doesn’t?) and since I don’t really have anything else to do I try and clean. The last few days I have just been tired of cleaning, and hoping :) that my house would be magically cleaned. Of course that doesn’t happen and it is up to me to get it done. Cleaning isn’t just enough for me though. When I clean I like to rearrange and it becomes more work then it ever should have been. There is so much that could be done! New floors, new table, spare room painted, deck painted, and landscaping finished are just a few of the things I would like to have done and my energy level and monetary funds are both severely lacking right now.

My family is coming up this weekend and for once I am not stressing about my house being clean. It does not stay clean when there are that many people in the house anyway so why should I go through the effort of cleaning every corner and shampooing the carpets?

Since I am already venting, here goes more! DOGS!! I am so tired of seeing, smelling, and, occasionally, stepping in dog mess. Boo’s potty is so small you don’t see it until you have to get down to carpet level for something and you get a stinky wiff. Claire on the other hand, when she goes you need a shop vac to suck it all up.  I am going to the store today to see if I can find something to sprinkle on and soak up what I can’t get to. At the end of the day when Claire puts her nose on your leg and looks up at you with those cute eyes and Boo lays next to you and positions himself so he makes sure he is touching you, you can’t help but love them.

How can you not love them?

I use Arm and Hammer Pet sprinkle stuff. I don’t remember the name exactly (obviously) but it comes in a sprinkle powder (shake over carpets, leave for 15 mins and vac up). It’s great for removing pet odors and has a hair release formula too! There is also s spray so if you don’t have time to vac you can spray, leave and let dry (about 7-10 mins) and it does the same thing for odors. I like it a lot.

For cleaning up Spencer’s little accidents (which I think are occasionally on purpose just to tick me off) I use Pet Botanica stain and odor control solution. It’s fantastic! A gallon was $34 BUT I bought it in September and I still have a half a gallon left. It removes odors and stains from carpets and flooring. You can also use it on couches etc. It’s awesome stuff and well worth the investement but I can hear your husband whine about the price already.

I’ll put some in a bottle and Tom can either take it home when he comes up or Mom can deliver when next she goes up so you can try before you buy, if you’d like.
